Documentation

The push service lets you send cross-platform, real-time alerts to any app user on any Android, BlackBerry, or iOS device. The push service sends notifications to app users, even when that app is not currently being used by the user.

This section contains the following topics:

Upgrading the Push Service to Version 7.4.7 from Version 7.4 and earlier

The push notification service for Android for Version 7.4 and earlier supports Google's Cloud to Device Messaging (C2DM) framework. As of June 26, 2012, this framework was deprecated by Google in favor of the Google Cloud Messaging (GCM) standard. With the release of Version 7.4.7, AppStudio now supports GCM and no longer supports C2DM.

If you are upgrading to Version 7.4.7, and you use the push service, use the following procedure to upgrade your app to use GCM:

  1. Install the AppStudio push server. For more information, see Installing the Push Service.
  2. Configure the push provider. The AppStudio push service relies on a push provider from Apple, BlackBerry, or Google. You have to set up a push provider for the devices on which you want to support push. For more information, see Configuring the Push Provider.
  3. Configure the push service in AppStudio. For more information, see Push Service Configuration.

If you are using a release of AppStudio enterprise mobility platform earlier than 7.4.7, continue to use C2DM as described here.
