Download and install the software and documentation for AppStudio enterprise mobility platform.
This topic contains the following sections:
AppStudio enterprise mobility platform is made up of several components, including the following:
Runs as a Web site under Internet Information Services (IIS) to respond to HTTP requests for data from mobile devices.
|Application Database||A Microsoft SQL Server database that stores application configuration information.||8.0.0|
|Data Connector||Provides the bi-directional data interface between the application database and enterprise data sources.||8.0.0|
|AppStudio||A Microsoft Windows development environment that lets developers create applications, configure device settings, define mobile users, control application display, and monitor mobile user behavior.||8.0.0|
|Plug-ins||Facilitate the communication between application's and enterprise data sources. The AppStudio installation supplies several core plug-ins for connecting to common data sources, including SQL Server and WSDL plug-ins. In addition to the core plug-ins, there are non-core plug-ins that connect to other data sources, including REST, DB2, and SharePoint. These non-core plug-ins have a separate installer.||3.2|
|Plug-in SDK||Lets you create a custom plug-in to connect to your data sources. The Plug-in SDK uses its own version numbers; they do not correspond to the version numbers of the enterprise mobility platform.||3.1|
|Push Service||Lets you push notifications from the server to client devices.||8.0.0|
New or upgrade platform installation?
The installation process depends on whether you are a new customer performing an install for the first time, or whether you are an existing customer upgrading from a previous release:
- New customers - Perform a complete installation.
- Existing customers - Install only the components updated since your existing release.
New platform installation
New customers perform a complete installation of AppStudio enterprise mobility platform. Some components are optional depending on your application requirements. For example, you might not have to install the Plug-in SDK if you are not developing custom plug-ins.
To install a release for the first time, see the instructions in Installing the Platform.
Upgrade platform installation
When updating an existing installing of AppStudio enterprise mobility platform, you only have to install those components that have been modified since your release was installed. For example, if you are currently using Version 7.3.10 and are upgrading to Version 7.3.14, you only have to install the Application Database and the client applications for the device simulators.
The table above shows the current version of each component. Use that table to determine which components you must install to upgrade your installation.
To upgrade your current installation, see the instructions in Upgrading the Platform.
Non-core plug-in installation
The AppServer installation includes core plug-ins for basic functionality. To extend your access to data sources beyond the core plug-ins, you should install the plug-in package. This package includes non-core plug-ins for connecting to REST, WCF, Sharepoint, and other types of data sources.
For instructions on installing the non-core plug-ins, see Introduction to Plug-ins.
Plug-in SDK installation
The plug-in SDK lets you create a custom plug-in to connect to your data sources.
To install the plug-in SDK, see the instructions in About the Plug-in SDK.
